May 2024

MAY 2024 JOURNAL ENTRY

Together In Wellness

May is nationally recognized as Mental Health Awareness Month. At The Station, we stand as both an ally in breaking the stigma surrounding mental health and an advocate for those seeking support. We celebrate the courageous steps taken by individuals to heal and move forward in life, prioritizing their wellness through self-care.

Self-care is a personal journey that can take many forms. It might involve seeking professional help, practicing mindfulness through activities like drinking tea, or journaling to gain clarity. Since a sense of community and belonging are a powerful catalyst for growth and healing, self-care could also entail social time and leaning on our support system. We recognize and support all these diverse approaches to self-care.

As we head into our busy season of summer camps for SOF Families and Gold Star Children, The Station will take a short break from The Journal. We look forward to returning in August with new stories and insights from our cornerstone programs, Restore and The Crossing.

Until then, we encourage you to enjoy the beautiful experiences and memories this summer offers. Remember, you are not alone in this journey, and The Station is here to support you every step of the way.

Mindful Tea Drinking

A Simple Practice For Self-Care

Practicing self-care consistently through a routine of activities promotes healthier habits and improves our mental, physical, and spiritual wellness. Creating small habits and rituals that help us slow down and be mindful teaches us the importance of being present in the moment. One such self-care practice is a tea ritual or tea ceremony.

Drinking tea has been considered a health-promoting habit since ancient times. The ritual of making and drinking tea can be a calming and meditative experience, helping reduce anxiety and stress while promoting a sense of well-being.

Creating Your Tea Ritual

Implementing a tea ritual is about setting aside a sacred time each day for mindful tea drinking. It should be a time that suits your unique needs and preferences.

Whether it’s a morning energizer, or an evening wind-down, the choice is yours.

Engage Your Senses During Your Tea Ritual

Smell the aroma of the dried leaves as they settle in your teapot.
Listen to the sound of the water pouring over the leaves and the subtle movement of the tea.

Observe the beauty of the leaves swelling and expanding as the water changes color.

Feel the cup’s warmth in your hands and lips as you take your first sip.

Savor each mouthful of tea, appreciating its rich flavor.

As you sip your tea, allow its warmth to envelop you, starting from your mouth and spreading through your body. This is your time to be fully present, to embrace the tranquility and mindfulness that a tea ritual provides.

Community Partnership

Local Business Supports SOF Services Members & Their Families

We want to express our sincere gratitude to The Spice & Tea Exchange of Bozeman for their generous support of The Station’s mission. Throughout the month of  May, they donated 10% of their Monday sales in support of our Montana immersive programs.

These immersive programs, in the beautiful state of Montana, offer a unique opportunity for participants to heal and build resilience in a private, supportive environment. We are grateful to have thoughtful and generous partners in our local community who help make this work possible.

Thank you to The Spice & Tea Exchange of Bozeman for your partnership.

Thank You For Your Support

Your generosity provides a powerful path for the Special Operations Community – Warriors, Spouses, Children, and Gold Star Children – to attend our world-class programming and return home with meaning and purpose beyond war.

People like you have impacted thousands since 2012. Thank you for your continued support and commitment to helping SOF Families.
