Program Spotlight: Learning Beyond The Catch

Program Spotlight Series
AUGUST 2026 PROGRAM SPOTLIGHT

The Quiet Work Of Growing

Time spent together does not always need an agenda. Sometimes a fishing pole and a quiet evening by the water with family are enough. Special Operations Forces (SOF) families gathered for an evening of fishing to focus on the love of learning and recognize the character strengths of confidence and perseverance. It can help them see the positive qualities within themselves and others and how these strengths show up in everyday moments.

Confidence can look like trying something new, trusting yourself, and learning as you go. Perseverance can mean continuing to show up, adapt, and keep trying when things don’t happen right away, similar to fishing.

Small Moments, Stronger Families

Families recognized strengths from trying a new technique to making another cast after a missed fish or encouraging a family member. The evening reinforced that confidence and perseverance grow through the effort, not just the catch.

Through catch-and-release fishing, families embraced the responsibility of caring for nature while developing a deeper respect for wildlife. The experience reinforced that even small acts of care play a part in preserving the places and wildlife that make these moments possible.

The work we do at Fort Bragg helps carry forward the same mission families experience through our immersive programs at Base Camp Jimmy.

Meet The Leaders Behind Interwoven Fort Bragg

As Special Operations spouses seeking connection amid the unique demands of SOF life, Erin and Carly first connected with The Station as participants. Through our Montana immersive program for spouses and local Fort Bragg events, they found what they had been searching for – a place where others truly understood the weight of deployments, the constant uncertainty, and what it takes to hold families together. Now, as outStation Director and Facilitator, they are creating that same space for others.

Erin and Carly bring lived experience that builds immediate trust, combined with comprehensive training in leadership development and evidence-based relationship coaching. They are building the support system they once needed, rooted in genuine care and real connection. Watching them step into leadership and serve their fellow SOF families at Fort Bragg has been one of our greatest honors.
