The Ripple Effect of Generosity
As we wrap up our year here at The Station, we can’t help but look back on what brought us hope and happiness. We realize those moments were rooted in generosity toward oneself and our communities, something simple yet so powerful. As we reflect on these experiences, we are reminded of something Jon Kabat-Zinn often teaches: generosity is not just a single action, but a practiced way of being where each small gesture expands outward and touches lives we may never meet.

Centered In Generous Practices

This ripple effect of kindness is reflected through our outStation events. This month, our Virginia Beach outStation hosted a civic engagement workshop where participants learned how to hand-knit blankets. Each participant left the workshop with additional supplies to continue their blankets at home. Within days, spouses shared photos of completed blankets and even stories of teaching their children the technique, creating memories that extended beyond the workshop itself.

Where Kindness Meets Purpose

Once the blankets were finished, several staff members personally delivered these handmade gifts to the Jones and Cabacoy Veterans Care Center. This is the ripple effect of generosity and demonstrates how one intentional act becomes many. One shared skill can grow into a family memory and a meaningful contribution to the community.
In the words of Jon Kabat-Zinn, “Initiate giving. Don’t wait for someone to ask. See what happens, especially to you.”
This workshop offered exactly that. It provided a chance to slow down, be present, and create something with heart, all while giving back to the community that surrounds our Virginia Beach families. We are grateful to everyone who participated, supported, and amplified this effort. We look forward to carrying this spirit of mindful generosity into the new year.

Thank you for your continued support in making this possible. Your generosity provides powerful experiences that help Special Operations Forces – Warriors, Spouses, Children, and Gold Star Children – heal from the impacts of combat.
