The Journal: Something Left To Give

The Journal
APRIL 2026 JOURNAL ENTRY

A Different Kind Of Service

There’s a particular kind of person who, after everything, still asks “what else can I do?” The men and women of Special Operations Forces (SOF) know that question well. It’s woven into who they are. At The Station, we know the most powerful thing you can give to someone like that is a foundation to keep going.

Healing often takes shape when the lessons from what you’ve carried are used to help others. From Base Camp Jimmy to our outStations across the country, we are giving back to our communities while helping SOF individuals reconnect to their sense of purpose and capability.

Hands At Work

Healing and giving back can happen together. As part of our Return and TrAC programs for SOF service members, TSF staff and participants spend a day giving back to the Human Resources Development Council (HRDC), a local nonprofit in Bozeman dedicated to fighting poverty by providing emergency shelter, food assistance, and long-term housing.

For many, this becomes one of the most grounding days of the program. Difficult experiences can leave someone feeling powerless or disconnected. But stepping in to support others in similar situations often shifts perspective and gives a sense of responsibility. Instead of being defined by what they’ve been through, participants become active contributors again, capable of creating impact.

Reaching People Where They Are

Our Interwoven outStations provide a place to slow down and spend time together, with those experiences naturally transferring into action beyond their circle. Participants continue to show up for their local communities by organizing food drives, hand-knitting blankets for veterans in long-term care, building beds for children in need, supporting food banks, and leading coastal cleanups. These aren’t programs, they’re what happens when people feel rooted enough to give.

Alumni Give Back Week

Through our summer give back program, alumni of TSF come back to where their own journeys began, this time to contribute.

They help us prepare Base Camp Jimmy for the summer and help us build and maintain our SOCOM Trail. What makes this experience unique is not just the work itself, but the meaning behind it. These are individuals who once arrived looking for solid ground, now returning to create that same opportunity for others. In doing so, they reinforce a shared truth across the SOF community: service does not end when the mission does; it simply takes a new form.

The Cycle Of Giving

“We make a living by what we get. We make a life by what we give.” — Winston Churchill.

SOF families have spent years dedicating themselves to our country. Our role is simple: stand behind them, so they have something left to give. When life at home feels steady, it carries into how someone shows up for their family, their community, and the mission.

Giving Big In Gallatin Valley

Today is Give Big Gallatin Valley, a 24-hour community-wide giving event and a chance to show up for the causes you care about while supporting U.S. Special Operations Forces and their families. Visit our Give Big page to learn more about The Station’s mission and give today.
