January 2025

The Journal
JANUARY 2025 JOURNAL ENTRY

Nature and Rhythm and Art, Oh My!

Welcome to the first Journal of 2025. This year’s Journal entries will provide a more personalized approach to bring you into the mind, heart, and soul of The Station Foundation. These entries will share specific topics to connect like-minded readers, build community, and share personal stories and experiences. Our hope is that readers can simply enjoy these writings and become more intimately connected with The Station’s work, team, and community.

This past month, our team explored new creative outlets in the art studio, drummed the djembes in the yoga studio, and snowshoed or hiked trails of the Gallatin National Forest to sharpen our skills and deliver impactful services throughout 2025. Exploring these unique expressions of mindfulness helped us identify best methods to provide emotional support, counsel, and advocacy for participants.

The Station’s team stepped away from screens and out into nature to feel clarity and flex our brains. This digital detox served as a mental reset that sparked many new creative insights. As Ram Dass once stated, “The quieter you become the more you can hear.” Although there is no WiFi in the forest, we found a deep connection to our mission and intention for the way ahead.

While walking the grounds of Base Camp Jimmy,  you could hear the primal beats of Djembe and Dundun drums bellowing from the walls of the yoga studio. As our team connected bass sounds and tones into one harmonious vibration, you quickly felt that rhythm is everywhere. These drumming sessions served as a uniting force and an outlet that fostered a sense of community, forged new relationships, and strengthened existing bonds.

Our team spent weeks in the art studio generating new content to help participants understand the world around them and their place within it. Through practice, our art team developed new outlets to help participants evoke emotions and explore creatively without judgment. We quickly saw that when interacting with art mediums there is an increase in dialogue and feelings of compassion, creating a space of understanding and empathy.

The process of making this uniform-based paper is symbolic of how The Station helps Special Operations Forces reclaim and restore relationships by reordering their lives into a fresh start.

The Station’s experienced, enthusiastic team continues to elevate their roles by refining their talents, learning entirely new skill sets, and building confidence to deliver world-class programming. Dedicating this time to hone our craft ensures we provide the most relevant healing modalities that help participants emote, connect, and grow. Watching our team challenge themselves and push beyond their comfort leads us to believe that the best is yet to come.

Thank You For Your Support

Your generosity provides powerful experiences that help Special Operations Forces—Warriors, Spouses, Children, and Gold Star Children— heal from the impacts of combat.

Thank you for your continued support in making this possible.
