SEPTEMBER 2024 JOURNAL ENTRY

The Season of Healing

Autumn is a season that reminds us that we can’t carry the weight of everything forever. There is strength in letting go, and there is courage in expressing and honoring our needs.

Releasing what no longer serves us allows us to heal and grow. It allows us to turn inward and see what emotions truly lie beneath the surface and begin to express our feelings.

This entry discusses the importance of emotional expression and different ways you can tap into your feelings.

Emotional Expression

The healing work done at The Station encourages people to share their feelings and emote for the first time in years. Sitting with the sensations that arise can be uncomfortable and yet healing at the same time. It is important to sit in this discomfort in order to grow through challenges and remove the residue of life’s struggles.

Most of us are raised to believe that emotions are weak and therefore deny their existence. In doing so, we build walls to protect ourselves and our hearts. However, by opening our heart and expressing our feelings we become healthier, and others see us as courageous.

Acknowledging and embracing our emotions shapes everything about us — our actions, relationships, health, and happiness. When we express vulnerable emotions like pain, embarrassment, or fear with those we love, we create bonding moments that enhance relationships and build a stronger community.

There are a variety of emotional expression activities and exercises you can lean on to improve your health and wellbeing. Some successful approaches we encourage are journaling, art, mindfulness, and time with community.

In Their Own Words

The Station has received some powerful testimonies recently and would like to share the impact our outStations are making in their local community. Hopefully reading these may entice you to join us for some of our upcoming events.

I want to say THANK YOU to The Station Foundation for allowing us the opportunity to come together as women who live a unique life, yet don’t always get to share our challenges with others who understand us.  When told to leave my phone behind I was a little hesitant. However, doing so helped me be fully present for the experience and create new friendships and community. – USASOC Spouse

After returning home from Montana, my family continued to connect by participating in the local outstation events offered through The Station Foundation. This was helpful due to us returning home to such a high stress environment. Through these events and continued self-care practices  we were able to get a sense of how these programs were starting to give us hope for a better future. Through these programs we were able to learn healthy outlets, carve out time for ourselves, and learn different strategies to help manage our mental and emotional needs. The more we attend and stay engaged, the more tools we add to our tool belt. I could see my quality of life improving. The more I attended the more I felt my body returning to a much calmer state. These local events seriously helped to balance and manage our stress and helped bring calm and peace to our daily lives.
