NSW, The Crossing Mentor
The Crossing helped me fulfill a promise made to a good friend – that I would help raise his boys if he couldn't – that they would get the same kind of exposure to how a man behaves that he would have given them, and that they'd end up better and harder working humans for having shared time with a friend of their dad's. No one wants to do this. It means you have lost a friend. Revisiting that loss will never feel good, but just like the long and arduous military training Jason and I endured molded in us the value of unhesitatingly choosing the hard right over the easy wrong, the opportunity to pass on the values that Jason would have instilled in his boys was more important to me than avoiding the pain of remembering just how good a man he was.

Being part of The Crossing was by far one of the most rewarding things I have ever done. It was an honor to be a part of these children’s lives and at the same time was emotionally one of the hardest things I have participated in. I have forever been changed as a result. The children my husband, son, and I got to know are so brave, resilient, and kind hearted. We would love to volunteer at The Crossing again in the future. I pray that our son never becomes a Gold Star child, but if he does, I most definitely would want to send him to The Crossing as a participant. God bless your program.

My initial expectation of this program was that it would help me with my leadership role in the Military's Family Readiness Group (FRG). I did not expect that it would help me as a whole. Before coming to this program I felt lost and just afloat. I was still adjusting to being a wife and mother of two – over time I have almost lost my own identity. I have focused so much on making sure everyone in my family was where they needed to be that I lost awareness of where I needed to be. During my time at The Station, I learned that I need to take care of myself in order to take care of others. I need to recognize my strengths and use them to their full potential when handling stressful situations.

During my 22 years of service – and after 10 years of continuous deployments – this is the first program of its type I have experienced. Applying the techniques that help us excel in our careers to our family life is a unique and incredibly effective way of improving our overall wellness. It will make a lasting, positive impact on the happiness of my family and marriage. It will also make me more effective in my career, as I reduce previous struggles between competing priorities. You’ve changed all of our lives for the better, and we will be forever grateful. We look forward to keeping in touch, trading the latest ways to manage stress, brew stellar coffee, and work on the areas of our lives which have a newfound importance for us.

My family and I are truly blessed for having the chance to experience your unique program. From arrival to departure, we were allowed to get back to the basics and continue to reconnect. Our son still talks about his arrowhead, survival skills learned, and our challenging and amazing hike to the mountain lakes. As a family, we continue to talk about our time there with our only regret being that we did not get to spend more time at The Station. You are growing something very special up there. Thank you for facilitating our further growth as a family. We are now stronger because you had the strength to see and act upon a need within our community. Thank you!
